Motorcycle Diaries

Changed the clocks today. Used the donor bike's clocks. Both.

And scavenged the donor bike's tacho cable.

Donor Bike : 63420 -- now on my bike

Took a ride on donor bike yesterday. Bliss. Its not making any clacking or knocking. Pulls well.

But what the fuck do I know -- I'm always wrong -- next thing, it will blow up spectacularly.

Checked oil on donor and filled the tank up.

Chris put sender in sump plug for me.

Beautiful.

He put gauge on a bracket for me. Next to indicator.

I replaced headlight socket connector, with a new fangled 'no solder' one that just clips onto the wires. Will see how that goes.

4 Oct 2009

Exhaust front end off - inspected exhaust gasket

Cylinder head cover off - checked all bolts, checked surfaces

Cylinder head off - checked surfaces.

Cam shaft checked, measured within tolerances

Cam chain & sprocket checked - no wear

Cam hole measured & checked - within tolerances

Valves lapped, cleaned & checked

Noticed exhaust studs are bent - straightened them

Piston has scoring on the rear (intake side) SKIRT

Rings have actually bonded with piston SKIRT & there's a shard of metal embedded in the piston ridge between the rings.

Barrel has burn marks, but no visible scoring... there's burn marks tho.

Little end doesn't seem to have any play. I've tried to rock the the piston any which way - and the only way it moves is sideways... which is along the cudgeon pin. And that's normal.

Tried to remove the rocker shafts so I can check & measure, but its impossible. Can't even move allen bolts. FUCKING ME OFF.
